PRAISE FOR
THE EX CHRONICLES

"It's a familiar premise—four 30-ish, New York City friends... navigating the perils of single life. Thankfully, Taylor makes it fresh again in her delicious debut novel by punching up the ante with some intriguing Terry McMillanesque twists."
— Publisher's Weekly

The [Ex Chronicles] is everything you think it would be, but nothing you’d expect. Yes, it’s steamy and sexy, but it’s also about love."
— UptownLife.net

"The Ex-Chronicles reaches a literary plateau that all of the three, or four sista-girlfriend premise based books should have achieved years ago; evolving from having caricatures of the successful, upward mobile, black women looking for love, to stories that feature characters who have both feet firmly rooted in reality." — AALBC.com

"The Ex Chronicles is a good story about four women living very complicated lives. All of these women have problems with men, but it goes much deeper than that. Self-worth, depression, alcoholism are just some of the issues that were addressed in this story. Strong characters and an interesting storyline makes The Ex Chronicles a wonderful debut novel for Carol Taylor."
— Urban Reviews

OFF THE HOOK: ADVICE ON LOVE AND LUST

While you're here, check out for my relationship column Off the Hook: Advice on Love and Lust on the right. You'll be glad you did. They're a trip and they're FREE! Below is a sample. If you love 'em tell your friends. And feel free to send me your own love and sex dilemmas, maybe I can hook you up.

JUST SEX, NO FEELINGS

Dear Carol,

This gorgeous guy that I met about two months ago asked me if we could see each other just for sex. That way we get what we both want . . . Should I say yes or no? I just want him for sex no feelings involved. Does that make me a bad person? HELP!!!
-- Leila

Dear Leila,

The only thing that can make you a bad person is being a bad person. Knowing who you are and what you want won’t. Why shouldn’t you both have safe sex, no strings attached if it is what you both want? Girl, I got people who really need my help, and you can get dinner and a movie, nookie from a hottie, unlimited booty calls and you are tying up my line. Bob, I’ll take sex, no strings attached for $5,000.

But before you assume the position, take a good long look at the situation. Do you secretly want a relationship with this guy and feel that sex will get it or do you really just want sex? If it’s a relationship then simply tell him that you’re flattered but you actually like to get to know people before you have sex with them. You’re just old fashioned that way. I say this because women (emotional creatures that we are) have a hard time having straight up sex with men we barely know. That’s why most women booty call their exes for straight up sex, we already know them and can have the level of intimacy needed to have fulfilling sex. (Shameless Plug: Speaking of sleeping with your ex, check out my new novel THE EX CHRONICLES; it's getting great reviews!)

No matter what you decide you’ve gotta give him props for at least being honest, though, it could just be arrogance. Most men perpetrate looking for a relationship when they really only want sex.

Work with me here: If we said yes to every guy who told us they just wanted to have sex with us, we’d be on our backs all day long and not get anything done. So you figure it out but I have a feeling you already know your answer. If you want only sex "no feelings involved" it seems like you can get it, if not from him definitely from someone else. Just step outside and ask any man. But if you really want more, if you hold out you’ll get it. If you don’t, you won’t. That simple. Being unavailable is like Kryptonite it weakens the strongest man, but in that same vein being overly-available will never get you anywhere near a relationship with him or anybody else. And hey, quite honestly, easy nookie is good, but so are intimacy, hugs and kisses, and late night phone calls just to say I was thinking about you. You decide. Good luck, girl.

-- Carol
